back to power

solar power solar power:

Solar is a good source of emergency power. I've dabbled in the past with small panels and controllers, but
more recently I've invested more heavily in larger, more practical panels, controllers, and other solar
accessories.

Even at this scale though, it's still nowhere near enough to put on my house for power. My eight 100w panels
would only offset around $100 in utility costs after one year's use. But they work really well for Field Day
and anywhere you simply don't have any (or enough) power. It's quieter than a gas generator, never runs out
of gas, and is still new enough that it tends to gather a crowd of interested people with lots of questions
to answer.

And since I run my solar at 12 volts DC, be sure to check out the "12 volt DC" pages for more information.
